Playable Places is TOMLIN STUDIO’s innovation-led concept and service offering that explores how digital twins — photorealistic, geospatial 3D models of real cities and environments — can become more than just simulations.

We help you transform these digital assets into explorable, engaging and gamified experiences using Unreal Engine or Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), two of the world’s most powerful real-time platforms.

A finished interactive experience built on top of your place.
From concept to publication, including gameplay design, polish, and support.

Ideal for exhibitions, interactive visualisations, learning, tourism, or local storytelling — playable inside Fortnite or as a standalone Unreal experience.

OUR LATEST PROJECT

Together with Linköping University and the owner of the digital twin data Norrköping Municipality, and with partial funding from Visual Sweden, we turned a digital twin of Norrköping’s historic industrial landscape into a playable experience inside Fortnite.

This wasn’t about making a finished game — it was a research-based innovation project to explore:

  • Whether real-world photogrammetry and geodata can be brought into Fortnite

  • How digital twins can be adapted for interaction

  • What gameplay mechanics can be layered onto real places

  • What process cities can follow to do the same
